Sterling & Shell Sewing Box/Etui with Silver French Tools

English sterling silver trimmed shell round box that holds a set of five sterling silver French sewing tools. I guess this could also be called an etui. The box stands approximately four and a half inches tall on three silver balls that serve as feet. The overall diameter of this round, ball shaped etui is approximately four and three quarter inches round. The lid is hinged with the sterling silver.

The silver on the shell box is hallmarked for 1888, London, England, with a lion passant, the leopard’s head, the date letter “N” and the duty mark portrait Queen Victoria. The silver is also marked “Thornhill & Co. Bond Strt W.” There is also the maker’s hallmark of an “HA” in a rectangle.

There are five French silver sewing tools inside this etui, a pair of silver handled scissors, a thimble, a silver handled awl, an all silver needle or bodkin and a silver needle case. The thimble is decorated with floral swags and bound reeds, the scissors, needle case and awl are decorated with bound reeds and ribbon and the needle/bodkin is decorated with floral swags or a maybe it is a vine. There are no monograms or engravings on any of the pieces or on the shell box/etui.
