Rare George III Marquetry Console Table

This important Georgian gilt wood Harewood console table is embellished with extraordinary marquetry of exotic woods on the top and handsome legs that are fully carved on all sides. Adorned by a bold motif of anthemion and intricate foliage, the frieze boasts a striking satyr’s mask accented with scrolling acanthus leaves. The exceptionally carved decoration continues on each of the legs, all expertly carved on all sides with floral plaques and shell and acanthus details. Such an impressive and functional piece of period furniture, featuring its original gilding, would have graced the residence of an individual of ample means, most likely used for either serving or display in a living room.

The bottom of the console bears a label “National Antique & Art Dealers Association of America: Exhibited, Art Trasures Exhibition 1967.”
