Paul Agustin Aizpiri (French, b. 1919) Still Life with Yellow Chair


Aïzpiri’s work resides in museums and private collections around the world. In the last thirty years, recognition for his work has increased greatly, including major exhibitions in New York, Japan, and Paris. Aïzpiri has had two recent retrospectives, the first at L’Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris (located between the Elysée gardens, the Palace de la Concorde, and the Presidential Palace). In 2000 a second retrospective was held at the Chateau de Vascoeuil, an important center of modern and contemporary art, whose permanent collection includes works by Salvador Dali, Fernand Leger, and Georges Braque. This attention has culminated in the dedication of the Nakata Museum of Art in Onomichi City, Japan in 1996 whose primary collection focuses on 200 of Aïzpiri’s works.
