Depictions of the Most Important Histories of the Old and New Testaments and Other Books Added to the Holy Scriptures by the Famous Artists Hoet, Houbraken & Picart and Cut in Copper by the Well Known Masters; 3 Volumes; Folio on “superroiall” paper; contemporary full vellum. Each volume with red and black title page with vignette. Volumes 1 & 2 have full page engraved dedications by Pieter de Hondt to Adam Adrian vander Duyn and to Philip vanden Boetzelaar. Volumes 1 & 3 have full page engraved frontispieces. All 212 plates called for (29 double page plates and 183 full page plates) are present. They are magnificently engraved with Hebrew, English, Latin, French and Dutch titles, designed and engraved with great skill. There are many elaborate and quite handsome engraved head- and tail-pieces throughout. This set contains an additional suite of 62 double-page copper plate engravings depicting Biblical scenes engraved by Johannes Luyken and printed by Johannes Covens and Cornelius Mortier, brothers-in-law who ran one of the most important publishing firms (especially of maps) in Amsterdam in the first half of the 18th century. These engravings are dispersed throughout the 3 volumes as “extra-illustrations.”
