An English George IV Giltwood Convex Mirror, circa 1820, with two candlearms

An English Regency or George IV Giltwood Two-Arm Convex Mirror with Eagle Crest, original gilding and two candlearms, circa 1800-1820. PROVENANCE: A New England Estate of note, available to the purchaser. Convex Mirrors were a fanciful innovation in the late eighteenth century and were a visual delight to their owners. Many were made in pairs. The gilding on such mirrors was beautiful when lit by daylight, but at night time, they were dazzling when illuminated by candles which were reflected by the glass. Very few convex mirrors were made with the addition of candle-arms and even far fewer survive with the original arms intact, as does this example. A choice a desirable size with wonderful proportions!
