An Egyptian Black Serpentine Plate

This finely carved shallow bowl of opaque serpentine sits on a short but wide disc base for balance, with convex sides that curve inwards to make slight shoulder at the top. The surface is remarkably smooth to the touch, and the color is nearly black and slightly mottled with dark brown.
