A Whimsical Statuette of a Piccolo Player By Bretby Art Pottery



Moulded in terracotta, with polychrome decoration, depicting an Italian ragazzo, dressed in the native manner, and playing a piccolo. Seated on a carved oak high back chair. Circa 1890.

Bretby Art Pottery, of Burton on Trent, was formed in 1883 by Henry Tooth and William Ault, whose forte were amusing models made in earthenware. After the death of the latter in 1900, the company was renamed ‘Tooth and Co’.
