ITEM DESCRIPTION

It is fully hallmarked on the side of bowl and under the lid for Guild of Handicraft, London 1900.
The Guild of Handicraft (1888-1907) was the brainchild of Charles Robert Ashbee (1863-1942), basing his concept on the English Medieval Guilds where skilled craftsmen could not only produce hand-crafted goods but also run a school for young apprentices.
It specialised in metalworking, producing jewellery, silverwork, enamels, hand-wrought copper and ironwork, as well as furniture.
It was hugely successful, not only for the Guild but for the movement as a whole, as it inspired other workshops around England and abroad.
Dimensions: 11” across handles, 5” to top of finial. Gross weight: 20 troy oz.
